BONIN & GARCETTI CLOSE REGISTRATION TO OCTOBER 17 EVENT
Plan to Confine Venice Residents to Overflow Space While Admitting Activists from Other Areas
We have just learned that – true to form – Garcetti and Bonin have “closed” registration for the October 17 “Town Hall” regarding the massive homeless shelter on the MTA Lot, meaning that many Venice residents will be confined to an outdoor overflow space even as activists from other areas are admitted.
“Current RSVPs Exceed Capacity at the Venue. There will be an overflow area where people who are not able to get into the event can hear and ask questions during the town hall. RSVP REQUIRED FOR ADMITTANCE.”
Even though there is not enough room for Venice residents, the invitation for the event was sent to all of Council District 11, and the City is planning to bring in busloads of paid activists.
If Garcetti and Bonin get their way, Venice voices will be drowned out (as they have been on so many other occasions) and the City will continue to falsely claim that Venice supports the MTA Shelter.
They will undoubtedly employ the same totalitarian tactics in connection with the Thatcher Yard Project, the Navy Street Project, the Rose Avenue Project and, of course, the Monster on the Median.
THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO THIS!
If you agree that all Venice residents deserve to be front and center on October 17th – and if you are as disgusted as we are by this transparent ploy – please send this one click email to Garcetti and Bonin demanding all Venice residents be admitted. AND PLEASE TURN OUT ON OCTOBER 17 REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU HAVE A RESERVATION OR NOT!
The City has shown its true colors, and we need a display of local solidarity now more than ever.
We will have free “STOP DUMPING ON VENICE BEACH” signs for you on Wednesday and, if you really want to maximize your visibility, “FIGHT BACK, VENICE!” hats and t-shirts are available for purchase here. You can pick them up at our table the night of the event.
We understand that our friends at Save Venice Beach will have signs and other supplies available at the event as well.
To maximize visibility for the October 17 Venice Town Hall, we are producing and selling Fight Back, Venice! t-shirts and hats for purchase for $20 each. Buy one here and pick it up on the night of the event at our Westminster Elementary Booth.
